Your opportunity to make a difference

Reporting to the Program Manager, this position exists to manage the successful implementation of the Channels of Hope for Gender (CoHG) project with the Lajamanu community in Central Australia and the Dhiiyaan community in Brisbane. The project is expected to expand to a neighboring Central Australia community in 2019.

A focus of the project is to work with faith leaders and local services to raise the awareness of domestic violence and develop innovative ways in which they can work together on the prevention of domestic violence. The Project uses a strengths based approach that brings clear perspectives from Christian faith and traditional culture on relationships and behaviour to support stronger leadership in response to domestic violence.

Who you'll be working with?

The Australia Program exists to make a difference to Indigenous Australian communities by leveraging our international programming expertise and supporting Indigenous Australians to lead their own development. This team is based all around the country and prides itself on being responsive to the development needs of community and staff.

What success looks like?

As the successful applicant, you will have demonstrated professional experience working with remote Aboriginal communities, preferably within a community development context, facilitating community workshops, working in cross-cultural teams to deliver results and experience in providing mentoring, training and support. In addition, you will ideally have:

  • Understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Western Australia
  • Excellent community development facilitation skills and relationship building skills
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching and team leadership skills
  • Partnership brokering and Stakeholder Management experience
  • Experienced 4-wheel driver who can spend up to two weeks a month in a remote community
  • Degree qualification in either Community, International Development, Behavioural or Social Sciences, Allied Health or a related discipline (preferred)
  • Some theological training would be an advantage

This is a 12 month fixed-term contract role, with possibility of continuance, and will be based in our Alice Springs office in Northern Territory.

Why Should You Apply?

  • We collaborate in a high performing and professional culture, committed to one common goal; the fight against global poverty, its causes and making a real difference in the world
  • We build brighter futures for vulnerable children and seeking to empower the world's poorest people.
  • Our people have access to professional development programs that include on-the-job learning, e-learning, workshops, forums, leadership development and internal mobility
  • We challenge vertical thinking and ask for horizontal perspective and implications
  • Together, we achieve organisational outcomes
  • We believe in timely truth telling with love: Seeking to understand as well as be understood, our conversation is always full of grace and authenticity
  • Competitive salary and flexible salary packaging scheme
