Serco are seeking qualified and experienced Welfare Officer to ensure the development and implementation of strategies to further improve the wellbeing and care of detainees. This role will be based at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre, Northam WA which provides care for a diverse range of clients.

About the role:

Reporting to the Welfare and Engagement Manager you will safeguard and promote the health, wellbeing and development of detainees by implementing planned development programs and strategies as well as the early identification, notification and remediation of possible welfare problems. You will also produce written reports and provide daily logs, maintaining auditable detainee records and produce relevant information, guidance and appropriate referrals to sources of assistance for detainees. There could also be the opportunity to support others in providing recreational activities for the detainees.

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Certificate III qualification in Community Services (or equivalent)
  • Significant experience within a community service / community development environment
  • Experience and skill in engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse groups
  • Knowledge of community resources networks
  • Outstanding time management and organisation skills
  • A proactive approach to your work

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain an Australian Federal Police clearance
  • Maintain a current First Aid Certificate
  • Maintain a current Working with Children certificate in accordance with the relevant state or territory child protection legislation (as required)
  • Meet the character and training requirements of the Migration Act 1958 to be designated as an Officer under the Act

This is a fulltime position working Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm.
