The Role: 

Ozanam House is a Crisis Supported Accommodation Service providing short-term accommodation and support to men over 18 years of age, with multiple and complex needs. Ozanam House takes a pro-active approach in engaging residents to identify and address underlying causes of their homelessness, and to create links with appropriate support services and sustainable accommodation options.

The role of the Engagement Officer is to provide a safe and supportive environment for residents and to co-ordinate the practical aspects of the on-site accommodation. The manner in which the role is executed however, is of critical importance. Engagement Officers must demonstrate unconditional positive regard, and develop genuine, non-judgemental and predictable relationships with residents, being aware that every client interaction has the capacity to either improve or deteriorate a resident’s perception of support, preparedness to engage and achieve their identified goals.

Selection Criteria:

    • Relevant tertiary qualification (required)
    • Experience in direct service delivery within the human services field.
    • Engagement Officers will possess the personal qualities required to work successfully with the client group, have an extensive understanding of the range of support needs which impact residents’ ability to manage their accommodation, and have the ability to identify and address service barriers and causes of premature disengagement.
    • Ability to work well within a team environment.
    • Excellent communication skills, including knowledge of conflict resolution.
    • Ability and commitment to be available to work a rotating roster, providing 16 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year staff coverage, as required.
