THE ROLE

We are currently looking for energetic and experienced casual Disability Support Workers to join our supported accommodation, group and outreach services across the Mid North Coast region.

This rewarding position will provide a positive, strengths based and person-centered service to enable individuals living with a disability to reach their own potential, become valued members of the community and achieve their goals.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for diligent individuals who are experienced in supporting people in a range of ways dependent upon the needs of each individual, whilst working within relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and frameworks to achieve positive outcomes for the people they are supporting. To be successful, you’ll also have:

  • An ability to use initiative, set priorities, work collaboratively and achieve individual and team goals and targets
  • A strong understanding of the Disability Services Act and Disability Services Standards
  • An ability to develop rapport and positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and fellow staff members
  • Computer skills of a high standard, especially in MS Office software, e.g. word, outlook, excel, and the internet.

 

THE ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate III in Disability or Home and Community Services or higher, or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in, or demonstrated commitment to, actively supporting people with a disability
  • An awareness of, and willingness to operate under the Strengths Based Approach and Person-Centred Planning principles
  • A strong understanding of the issues involved in working with people with a disability (intellectual, physical or multiple) and a commitment to Social Justice
  • A strong understanding of issues in the disability field specifically in the areas of valued social roles, supporting people to make connections and friendships and transitions to independence
  • Competence in developing and/or working within the framework of Individual Plans
  • Senior First Aid certificate
  • Completion of a pre-employment medical, National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, and hold a valid driver’s licence.
