Experienced Residential Care Workers required!

At YLO, we are currently seeking experienced Residential Care Workers to join our team in providing therapeutic care and support to children and young people on a part-time or casual (relief) basis in our residential houses.

Positions available include:

  • Residential Care Worker - Permanent Part-time (66 hours per fortnight -  sleepover shifts required).
  • Relief Residential Care Workers - you let us know your availability

    As a Residential Care Worker, you will be required to:

  • Attend to the daily care needs of children and young people;
  • Facilitate the operation of the residential household including cleaning, cooking and other relevant tasks;
  • Provide therapeutic support and guidance and ensure consistency of care at all times;
  • Manage challenging and complex behaviours; and
  • Support and promote social, emotional, behavioural and developmental learning of children and young people;
  • Implement educational programs and plans to facilitate greater educational outcomes for children and young people in residential care and provide transition to school support where required.

As children and young people within residential care frequently display challenging and complex behaviours and emotional processing difficulties, you will need to possess experience within the residential care field and have resilience and confidence in dealing with such matters.

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • Minimum 1 year experience working within a residential care facility and / or experience working in an educational setting i.e. as a teacher's aide or similar;
  • Resilience and an ability to remain calm in times of crisis;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people, trauma and resulting emotional and behavioural issues;
  • Knowledge of legislation, policy and issues relating to children and young people involved with the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services
  • A valid Queensland Driver's Licence; and
  • An Apply First Aid Certificate.

    Applicants must ideally hold (have the ability to obtain):

  • Qualifications within the youth work, social work, psychology or behavioural sciences areas are required (minimum Certificate IV qualification);
  • A valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) from the Public Safety Business Agency; and
  • A Positive Suitability Check

    You will be required to use your own vehicle in undertaking relevant duties and therefore must hold comprehensive car insurance. It is also expected that you be willing to travel up to 1 hour to undertake work activities in our various Residential homes.
