About Latrobe Youth Space

A consortium of 10 key organisations has been formed to manage the Latrobe Youth Space. These are YMCA Victoria (lead agent), Berry Street, Baw Baw Latrobe Local Learning and Employment Network, Scouts Victoria (Strzelecki District), Quantum Support Services, Latrobe Youth Choices, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency, The Gathering Place, AGL Loy Yang and Gipps Sport. This collaborative approach ensures that the Youth Space will be managed and supported by agencies with an enormous breadth and depth of experience working with young people in Latrobe.  

The Youth Space will be youth-led and managed by the consortium members.

The project will be governed by young people. This Youth Governance Team will comprise youth members from across the region and representatives from a range of young people – age, ethnicity, ability etc

The Youth Space will provide facilities and a venue which will ensure that young people in Latrobe are able to achieve a connection with each other through a range of activities, programs and resources that will link young people to services and agencies throughout Latrobe. The key design principles designed by the co-design team will guide the Youth Governance Team throughout this project.

 

About the role

This position will play a role in the activation of a newly designed youth space through a prevention and early intervention framework. You will also support the manager in developing services and responses to places and population groups who currently experience barriers to access.

You will be part of a dedicated team of Youth Service staff that will deliver Youth Empowered programs and provide a culturally safe, positive and inclusive environment.  

This is a full-time tenured position until July 2020.


Duties

  • Support the Manager to meet DHHS contract requirements, including delivery of programs and services included in work plans and all reporting timelines
  • Develop strong community relationships with young people living in Latrobe City
  • Assist in the effective running of the Youth Space operations and implementation of the key design principles created by the co-design team
  • Ensure the Youth Space will be a safe space; welcoming, inclusive, accessible and culturally safe for all young people, including strategies that ensure that LGBTQI young people feel safe and welcomed in a non-judgemental space.
  • Maintain and support a strong youth and family focus, and ensure a positive service experience for both young people and their parents/guardians.
  • Utilise internal and external marketing initiatives to assist in the delivery of high performing campaigns that drive participation, raise awareness and generate local community engagement.
  • Perform duties as required and comply with reasonable directions.

  • Inter-personal skills:  Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills and well-developed emotional intelligence
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to delegate, prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and understanding in the implementation of prevention and early intervention programs and services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and understanding in the implementation of a Youth Empowerment Framework.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to positively network and collaborate with internal and external community stakeholders to drive community engagement and customer experience.
     

Qualifications

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Youth Work or equivalent
  • Working with Children Check
  • Victorian Crimcheck (obtained prior to employment)
  • First Aid Level II and CPR
  • Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion upon successful application)
