About Us

Napranum is a remote Indigenous community located on the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Cape York Peninsula.  Napranum is 10 minutes' drive from the town of Weipa, 4 hours from Fruit Bat Falls and a 4WD journey to The Tip of Cape York.

About the Role

Manager - Napranum Aged and Disability Services

The Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council seeks an energetic and experienced person to join us in Napranum as the Manager of the Napranum Aged and Disability Services (NADS).

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to apply their understanding of aged care services and passion for community care to support the aged and people with a disability and their carers in a remote Indigenous community.

Our unique service includes independent accommodation for up to 5 clients, an overnight respite room, 16 Home Care Packages (HCP) and the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). We also provide Meals on Wheels.

The successful applicant will manage the daily operation of the NADS to provide culturally appropriate services to clients in Napranum and Weipa. You will be an organised leader who shares Council's objectives to promote and maintain client independence and enhance quality of life for our clients.

General duties include:

  • Manage the daily operation of the NADS to provide culturally appropriate services to clients. 
  • Manage, supervise and instruct staff to ensure that works are completed within set time frames, budgets and to Council standards.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports to the Finance department, complete online reports to the relevant agencies, complete Medicare claims and monitor Centrepay deductions.
  • Assist with budgeting of finances and monitor resource use to provide effective and efficient services. 
  • Attend meetings as deemed relevant to the position and represent the organisation in the wider community, networking with other providers and businesses to support client care.

Skills and experience

​​​​Essential selection criteria include:

  • Demonstrated experience in Community Services management, including financial management, reporting and delivery of services according to contractual obligations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the aims, processes and standards of service delivery of HCP, CHSP and Queensland Community Care Program (QCCP).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues which impact on the day to day lives of the frail, aged, and people with a disability and their carers in remote communities.
  • Certificate IV in Aged Care or Community Services (minimum requirement).
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait people.

Position details and entitlements

  • Remuneration at above Award rates (approx. $76 000 - $79 000 per annum) plus applicable allowances 
  • 38 hours a week and on call as required 
  • Generous superannuation options (Council contributes 12%, you salary sacrifice a 6% contribution) 
  • 4 weeks' Annual Leave plus 17.5% Leave Loading 
  • Relocation assistance up to $5000 offered to eligible candidates under Council's Relocation policy
  • Subsidised staff accommodation in Napranum subject to availability and eligibility
