Purpose of Position:

To work actively alongside young children (0-6 years) with developmental delay or disability and their families to establish an implement an early childhood early intervention services that is individually responsive to identified need.


The introduction of the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is the greatest change to the disability sector in Australia in decades. UnitingCare Community has been selected as the Community Partner with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) in the roll out of the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) service in Townsville, Mackay and Toowoomba.

The ECEI approach has been designed to identify the type and level of early intervention support a child needs to achieve their best outcome. A family centred approach that supports greater inclusion in mainstream settings and builds capacity of a child and their family is proven to have positive effects in early childhood intervention. 
 
With the continuing service demand, as Lead Practitioner you will be working alongside children with developmental delay or disability and their families in the implementation the ECEI service and then providing on-going assistance in the management of these support plans on behalf of the NDIA. Heavily reliant on your ability to "get to know" these children and their families your success will be determined by your ability to empower their choices and create a positive vision for their future. 
 
Working both autonomously and as part of the UnitingCare Community ECEI team, you will need to have the ability to access, gather and report on information that is relevant for each individual situation. 

Reporting to the Team Leader, in this position you are working actively alongside children (0-6 years) and their families to provide them with the guidance, information, linkages and capacity building necessary to enable them to become fully included in their communities and the opportunities community has to offer. Another aspect of this role is to work collaboratively with other key stakeholders within the organisation, NDIA and with community service providers.
 
This role is focused on enabling and supporting children and their families as they make decisions that are critical to their lives. 
 
To be successful in this role you must have: 
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in partnership with young children with developmental delay or disability and their families to encourage community involvement and personal goals
  • Proven practice experience within an early childhood early intervention framework
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or early childhood experience and experience with social inclusion 
  • High levels of written and verbal communication
  • A collaborative work approach and team orientation
  • A current driver's license, Positive Notice from Disability Services and Blue Card
