The Albury Wodonga Community College is seeking an experienced Welfare Officer (grade 3 Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2010), to support our Indie School/Australian College of Higher Education. This position will be based in Shepparton*, whilst also servicing our Bendigo location, with occasional travel required to other sites.

The position is fulltime, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm, 38hrs per week and at grade 3, being a current rate of $25.6211/hr (as per Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2010).

We would like to invite an experienced Welfare Officer to join our team with some of the responsibilities of your student welfare & support responsibilities to include:

  • Act as the main contact and support person for senior school aged students aged under 15 - 21 years for liaison and transition,
  • Provide accurate information and advice to students about attendances, academic progress and other issues,
  • Monitor and follow up on student attendance, academic progress and personal wellbeing,
  • Identify, monitor and develop intervention strategies for at risk students,
  • Liaise with student carers, parents and other stakeholders to resolve student issues,
  • Student support and counselling and referral to external service providers as required,
  • Coordinate with other academic and administrative staff to organise various activities to enhance student wellbeing,
  • Occasional travel and supporting a number of locations outside Shepparton.

 

The successful candidate must possess the following skills and knowledge:

  • Experience and passion in the provision of student welfare support,
  • IT literacy and excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Effective time management and organisational skills,
  • Qualification in education welfare support or related discipline,
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and resolve conflict,
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a part of a team with initiative.

Previous experience in a similar role working with senior school years students would be an advantage, however applicants who can demonstrate the right attitude to student support will be considered.
