The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEN) at UNSW Sydney comprises 45 academic staff, 80 research centre staff, and 32 professional and technical staff. The Water Research Laboratory is a world-leading academic research and consulting laboratory that endeavours to tackle the most challenging and pressing water-engineering problems faced by the world today relating to water and the environment.

 

About the role

  • Level A - $91,743– A$98,127 per annum (plus 9.5% superannuation)
  • Fixed Term (12 months)
  • Full-time position (35 hours per week)

We are seeking a dynamic individual with field data collection experience to join our Coastal research team. The position objective is to contribute towards the research effort in the field of Coastal Engineering with a specific focus on coastal data collection in the surf zone (via jet ski), remote sensing of the surf zone, and data assimilation with models to improve our understanding of nearshore processes and bathymetric variability in the surf zone. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic research team of Academic staff, research staff and graduate students. The position is primarily based at the Water Research Laboratory (WRL) located at the UNSW Manly Vale Campus.  This full-time research position is initially for a 1-year period commencing as soon as possible.

 

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A Master’s by Research or Doctorate in water/coastal engineering or a related area of physics/science
  • Valid jet ski licence or the ability to obtain one upon appointment.  Willingness to undergo all mandatory Health and Safety training required to operate jet ski in surf zone
  • Valid car driving licence, and if not issued in NSW willingness to obtain one upon appointment
  • Well-developed field research skills and experience, including field data collection using RTK-GPS, jet skis, and one or more remote sensing platforms
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse range of students and staff
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety and commitment ti attend relevant training
