About the Opportunity
This Townsville based full-time First Aid Trainer role complements the wide network of St John Ambulance trainers who deliver a range of first aid courses across the State of Queensland.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver and assess industry leading first aid and related health training to public and industry clients
- Deliver both accredited and non-accredited First Aid Training and Assessment using St John Ambulance endorsed course materials
- Ensure training courses (and all relevant resources) are set up and delivered to a professional standard
- Maintain accurate client training and assessment records
- Prioritise work to comply with training schedules and business requirements
- Support students with their learning, and help them identify potential supplementary learning needs
- Work closely with training support staff to maintain delivery of high quality training services to meet market expectations
Qualifications
- At minimum, TAE 40110 or TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent) including LLN
- First Aid qualifications to deliver St John training courses (or relevant industry background and ability to quickly obtain)
- Current Driver's Licence
- Current Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
- Current National Police Check (or ability to obtain)
Experience and Competencies
- Prior experience in delivering First Aid or similar training, ideally with an RTO
- Hold vocational competency and skills, and be prepared to maintain currency
- Current understanding of VET sector, and quality framework compliance requirements
- Excellent presentation, communication and assessment skills
- Ability to relate to a wide and diverse range of people, including in various workplaces, remote settings and indigenous communities
- Meet and maintain a satisfactory standard of fitness to perform the essential and inherent requirements of the role (including floor based physical CPR demonstration and some manual handling)
Conditions of Employment
- Working hours are normally Monday to Friday, but training may be delivered on any day, including weekend and evening courses as required

- St John members must have a zero blood alcohol concentration and must not smoke or take illicit drugs during operating hours
- St John members should not take medication that may affect their duties during operating hours
- While training is mainly conducted in St John premises in Aitkenvale and Thuringowa, trainers will require their own reliable vehicle to travel to and carry training equipment and resources to other public and industry client venues within the assigned region (St John provides transport for out of town locations)
- Trainers must not have a conflict of interest by working as a first aid trainer (or similar role) for a competitor organisation or as a sole trader
