Position overview

ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the Research School of Psychology, the ANU Medical School, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Research School of Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.  

The position sits in the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, one of five centres within the Research School of Population Health (RSPH).  The Research Fellow/Fellow will contribute to the MAE program through convening subjects, teaching and supervising students, and conduct applied epidemiological research into a relevant area of work that may be infectious or non-communicable in nature.  

A major priority of the position will be to work closely with other MAE program staff to establish and support the ASEAN-Australia Health Security Fellowship Program in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Indo-Pacific Centre for Health Security. The position will be based in Canberra with regular periods of interstate and/or international duty travel. The primary aim of the position will be to help develop and deliver health security and health systems leaders for our region by:

1. Training and supporting candidates from South East Asian countries to undertake the MAE program, while they simultaneously work in and strengthen the health system in their own country.

2. Training and supporting Australian candidates to work in regional public health placements at institutions such as ministries of health units or WHO offices in ASEAN nations as part of their field-training component of their course.

3. Training and supporting each of these candidates, while in their field placements, to deliver capacity-building programs on various field epidemiology topics. These training programs may be for their own colleagues, for other members of the public health workforce, or may be in other ASEAN countries.
