The College is seeking applications from qualified teachers registered with the Queensland College of Teachers for this permanent position commencing January 2019.

Downlands College is looking for a committed and energetic Leader of Sport to join a professional, proactive and enthusiastic College community to implement a diverse sports program.

As a member of the Middle Leadership Team the College Leader of Sport is committed to the MSC Vision in Education and Philosophy of Education and reports directly to the Principal for the overall leadership, management and enhancement of the co-curricular sporting program from Years 5-12 in a manner consistent with the ethos, goals and policies of the College.   In carrying out this role, the College Leader of Sport is responsible to the Deputy Principal for the day to day execution of his/her duties and is required to work closely and collaboratively with the Team Leader Co-curricular.

The College Leader of Sport will need to be motivated and a great communicator who is passionate about quality sports education and achieving operational excellence. A minimum of 3 years experience within an educational/sporting environment is a must and proven success coaching at school and/or representative level would be very desirable.

The College Leader of Sport will be allocated a .6 teaching load.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Work collaboratively to manage the daily operations of the Yr 5 -12 Co-curricular Sports Program
  • Direct fixture and participation negotiation with other schools and sporting organisations/ associations
  • Assist in the development and implementation of sports policies and procedures
  • Track and monitor student participation, attendance, dress standards and injury management
  • Ensure accurate recording and maintenance of student sporting records, including carnival results, achievement of teams/students to determine award recipients at the end of each year
  • Work collaboratively to assist with organisation of sports carnivals
  • Assist with the development of strategies to recruit and retain coaches
  • Coordination of a variety sporting activities, including selection trials, engaging and supervising coaches and umpires, writing end of season reports, acknowledging student achievements

It is essential that the College Leader of Sport have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong administration and IT skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in an educational and sporting environment
  • Qualification in Sports Coaching or similar
  • Senior First Aid/CPR certification

This Middle Leadership Position shall be appointed for an initial period of four (4) years.
