About Griffith University
At Griffith University we believe in, strive for and celebrate the remarkable.

We are known for our high impact research, outstanding student experience, our commitment to social justice and our welcoming environment. We're proud of our remarkable achievements, of our people and their passion for making a positive difference. Together we contribute to the development of knowledge and learning in an attractive environment which values excellence, equity, diversity, and innovation.

The Safety Science Innovation Lab was founded to capitalize on the opportunities for collaboration between science, health, business and the humanities and social sciences. Critical innovations in safety science won't necessarily come from new technologies, but from a better understanding of complexity and social construction. SSIL, operating within the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research, is currently engaged in a number of industry-funded projects to investigate and improve safety in high-risk work. These projects involve a mix of organisational ethnography and controlled field experiments in safety practice. The projects are led by Dr Drew Rae and Professor Sidney Dekker.

The opportunity
We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to manage relationships with industry partners and conduct research within current and future projects. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work independently, under broad guidance, to carry out research design, fieldwork, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will supervise postgraduate candidates aligned with the project. There is an expectation that the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will spend a portion of their time developing their own independent research projects which align with the Crises: Communities, Safety and Security research theme, including seeking grant funds.

This is a fixed term (2 years), full time position based at the Nathan campus.

About you
The role requires a mix of academic and industry-facing skills. An ideal candidate will have a mix of academic and industry experience. A PhD, ideally completed within the last 5 years, in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, or a cognate discipline is a mandatory requirement for this position. An ideal candidate will also have demonstrated skills and capacity to perform field work within organisations conducting engineering and construction activity. As Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will also have an ability to produce research and demonstrate a high level of communication ability.

Salary range
Research Fellow Grade 2: $92,511 - $109,860 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $108,239 - $128,537 per annum.
