The School of Health Sciences, one of four Schools within the Faculty of Health and Medicine, excels in the teaching of allied health professionals and producing world class clinically relevant research. The disciplines in the school include Family Studies, Medical Radiation Science (Diagnostic Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiation Therapy), Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Therapy, Oral Health Therapy, Physiotherapy and Podiatry. The School achieves a balance between advancing the professional research profile with each discipline and working together to educate future health care workers in a multi-professional health care environment.

About the discipline and role

The discipline of Medical Radiation Science (MRS) comprises a range of imaging and therapy practitioners with a vast range of clinical and research experience which benefits all MRS programs. This position is for a suitably qualified Radiation Therapist.

The radiation therapy program has a long history of producing highly sought after clinically ready graduates, and it has been one of the most professionally engaged programs in Australia. The program has pioneered the development of many new areas of professional practice, and its staff are national award winners in both radiation therapy and education. The program is equipped with a treatment set up lab, a large planning system and lab that can be accessed both on and off campus, and a VERT 3D linac theatre, and the professional practice program has access to clinical centres and clinical staff from across Australia.

The MRS program has recently changed to a 4 year honours degree which will embed all professional practice experience within the degree and provide work ready graduates. There is an expectation that as part of the honours degree that students, supervised by staff and clinicians, will produce publication and conference ready research.

The successful applicant will provide academic and professional practice education through the teaching, development and coordination of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The applicant will also be an active researcher, developing and implementing relevant health science research and supervising research students.

Ideally applicants for this Level B position will hold a PhD and be research active. Applicants without a PhD may be appointed as a level A with an expectation to enrol and complete a research higher degree. The appointee must be eligible for AHPRA registration as a Radiation Therapist.
