About Margaret Cribb Early Learning (MCEL)

Margaret Cribb Early Learning, based at the University of Queensland, is a long day care centre that provides early childhood education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, with a Kindergarten Early Learning Program for children aged 3 to 5 years. The Centre offers education and care services to all children in the community, with priority given to children of The University of Queensland staff and students.

MCEL has been part of The University of Queensland community for 24 years, and has recently relocated to a new, purpose-built facility located on the St Lucia campus. The Centre is a not-for-profit organisation currently licensed to accommodate up to 154 children per day. It is led by the Centre Manager, and as an incorporated association, is governed by a Parent Management Committee.

Philosophy of Care

The Centre philosophy is in keeping with the Reggio Emilia educational approach. The Centre is a place where children are nurtured and respected as creative and capable learners. Play-based learning is valued as the most authentic way to support children's development and lay the foundations for future learning. Our environment is a place of discovery with an emphasis on natural materials and delight in messy play. Educators facilitate and support opportunities for children's interests to develop and listen and observe to plan.

In the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority recent accreditation, the Centre was assessed, overall, as exceeding national quality standards. It was recognised that 'educators have created a warm and friendly environment for children and families within the service and the centre is commended for the ongoing efforts in building collaborative partnerships with families and children'. MCEL was praised for providing 'opportunities for children to explore, imagine, experiment and discover in an environment rich in natural elements, which fosters children developing an awareness and connectedness with the environment and one another.'

About the Role

We are currently seeking Educators who are warm and patient, who have a sense of humor and responsibility. We are looking to fill a number of full time positions within the centre. 

Your Experience and Qualifications

You will have a deep understanding of, or a willingness to gain understanding of Margaret Cribb Early Learning practices and pedagogy. You need to have confident communication skills. You also need a desire to work as part of a team to deliver a high-quality program for a range of ages. You will be joining a team of creative, energetic Educators in a Reggio Emilia inspired centre that values barefoot, messy and play-based learning. 

The successful applicant must be able to meet the following criteria:

• Hold a Certificate III Children's Services or above (ACECQA recognised equivalent)
• Hold a current Blue Card
• Have a current First Aid Certificate including CPR, anaphylaxis and asthma training
• Have knowledge and/or experience in relation to Reggio Emilia inspired learning environments and nature play (or have an interest in learning).
• Establish positive and professional relationships with children, families and staff
• Display good communication and interpersonal skills
• Be achievement orientated and committed to working with a cohesive and friendly team
• Have a genuine interest and passion for working with children and improving their personal development.
