Here at the Lakemba Children’s Centre

The Lakemba Children’s centre is staffed by a team of professionals who are highly experienced in the care and education of young children.

An opportunity has presented itself for an experienced cook to join the team to provide nutritious meals that meet the dietary requirements of all children in the centre

This role is offered on a Permanent Part Time basis working 25 hours per week (Monday to Friday 9am – 2pm)

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and cook nutritious balanced meals that are age and developmentally appropriate for children
  • Provide for/or supplement alternative foods/beverages for children with allergies or special food/dietary requirements.
  • Consistently conduct menu planning according to the nutritional requirements appropriate guidelines (include consideration for a culturally diverse menu).
  • Be involved in special events which require preparation and/or organisation.
  • Perform any laundry duties in relation to kitchen articles and assist in other laundry duties of the centre if required to do so.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained to high standards and replaced as necessary (or reported to manager).
  • Deal with kitchen emergencies or hazards appropriately and report to the director or deputy as soon as possible

You will have:

  • Certification in Food Safety and First Aid
  • Certification in Nutrition and Menu Planning
  • A current Working with Children Check or be able to Meet the requirements of a Working with Children Check
  • Experience in preparation of meals for large numbers
  • Sound knowledge of Australian Dietary Guidelines
  • Experience with children from 0-6 year
  • Awareness of cross cultural and anti-bias issues
  • Effective complaints handling skills and experience

This position requires a Pre-Placement Health Assessment in the interest of providing a safe and healthy workplace. The medical will take place at one of Council's chosen providers and will be conducted at Council's expense.
