About the Family Services Department

This department is part of our Community Life Division, and provides services for families and children aged 0-12 through the delivery of programs such as Maternal and Child Health, Long Day Care, Kindergarten, Occasional Care, School Holiday Program, Parenting Programs and Playgroups.

 

About the role

Our Certificate III qualified Educators assist our Diploma Educators to implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate educational programs that reflect children’s needs and work with a supportive and cohesive team to provide a safe and caring environment for children and families.

This is a temporary full-time Maternity Leave replacement position for 12 months.

Key responsibilities

  1. Role model and promote Council values in all aspects of duty.
  2. Ensure an inclusive, safe, caring and educational environment exists for all children and that the health and well-being of each child is a priority.
  3. Assist with the implementation of an age and developmentally appropriate educational program for all children, individually and in group situations.
  4. Assist children with additional needs to develop their skills and abilities within a supportive environment.
  5. Liaise with parents for effective communication of details in relation to their children, and support families in their child rearing role.
  6. Respond to enquiries relating to the programs, procedures and activities within the Centre.
  7. Assist in establishment of daily procedures, objectives and philosophies for the Centre.
  8. Respond to enquiries, orientate and enrol new families.

Key selection criteria 

  1. Certificate III in Children’s Services or equivalent.
  2. All accreditations and certificates listed under Qualifications and Experience.
  3. Sound knowledge of the development of children in the 0-6 years age group in relation to the Early Years Learning and Development Frameworks.
  4. Ability to make recommendations to senior staff on the planning and implementation of childcare programs within the centre.
  5. Ability to identify Health and Safety issues pertaining to the work environment.
  6. Ability to ensure confidentiality, professionalism and discretion are maintained at all times.
