The Role

We are seeking one Postdoctoral Fellow to join a team of talented world-renowned researchers to work on different aspects of Distributed Algorithms in Dynamic Networks from the development of theoretical framework with the exploitation of locally available information, to the design, analysis and implementation of real-life solutions and datasets. The outcome of this research project will have both research and development applications.

The post will be funded from an Australian Research Council Discovery Project Grant awarded to Professor Bernard Mans (http://web.science.mq.edu.au/~bmans/).

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidates will be involved in a Research project on local computation in Dynamic networks, mobile, wireless, social and other ubiquitous communication networks that involve autonomous and highly dynamic entities. Disappointingly, dynamic aspects of the networks are often treated as a liability instead of an asset, even when they enhance the network. It has become clear that crucial local knowledge available within the neighbourhood of the entities can play a significant role in the efficiency of the network. The goal of this fundamental research project is to provide ground-breaking solutions to design efficient dynamic networks by exploiting this local information: what type of knowledge available locally to the dynamic entities would affect the computability or the communication complexity of solving a problem? And more importantly how and why?

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position applicants must respond to the selection criteria below in a separate document as part of the application process

Essential

• A PhD awarded or submitted, in a relevant discipline area, such as distributed algorithms, theoretical computer science or graph theory.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in one or more of the following areas: Design and analysis of distributed algorithms.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a research team, and the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
• A track record of publication in top peer reviewed journals and prestigious conferences in distributed algorithms (e.g., PODC, DISC), or theoretical computer science (e.g., SODA, ICALP, STACS)
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• A track record of science innovation and creativity including the ability and willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.

Desirable

• Previous experience or research in software development, mathematical package and network software.

Salary Package: from $90,188 to $96,655 p.a. (Level A Step 6 to step 8; PhD required) plus 17% employer's superannuation contribution and annual leave loading
