The EPMO is responsible for RMIT’s strategic investment portfolio ensuring alignment with the University’s strategy, assuring the delivery of the expected outcomes and benefits and building project management capability across the University. It provides an enterprise view of strategic change, risk and dependencies, and supports VCE and Council oversight of the strategic investment portfolio and projects. The EPMO also delivers advisory, training and coaching services, based on RMIT’s industry-aligned Project Management framework and tools, to ensure the effective initiation, approval, delivery and governance of projects across the University.
The Role & Your Responsibilities
The EPMO Enterprise Portfolio Management Lead is accountable for the management of RMIT’s Enterprise Portfolio Plan. The role facilitates the prioritisation and sequencing of projects and the management of interdependencies, issues and risks across the portfolio to deliver maximum return on investment. It works closely with the Change Lead to ensure the strategic program of change can be effectively embedded into the business.
The role defines the frameworks and practices for the planning and delivery of our strategic program of work, and partners with the Program Directors to provide an integrated view of the strategic program. It measures performance of the overall program, consolidating information to inform insights and recommendations to address key challenges and ensure its successful delivery. The role also partners with senior executives and their teams in the planning and mobilisation of their projects, providing coaching and advice on RMIT’s portfolio, program and project management practices.
Skills & Experience Required
- Extensive portfolio, program and project governance and enterprise PMO leadership experience within large, complex organisations across a variety of industries and organisations
- Demonstrated ability to advise on and lead large complex projects and programs that deliver innovative solutions to achieve business outcomes within agreed timeframes and budget.
- Experience in Strategic Portfolio management including portfolio prioritisation, performance analysis and provision of insights and recommendations that optimise value delivery.
- Experience in applying agile practices and ways of working to manage and prioritise a strategic portfolio of work, programs and projects.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective, trusted relationships in a collaborative and engaging manner with a broad range of internal and external senior stakeholders
- Superior communication, facilitation, influencing and negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to adapt these to a diverse range of stakeholders and contexts, including Senior Management and Executive
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, advise and support people in portfolio, program, project and benefits management.
- Outstanding leadership skills, including the capacity to initiate, lead and manage change in a challenging and dynamic environment, while striving to achieve strategic objectives.
