With a strong commitment to Open Access, client engagement and digital collections, UTS Library is globally recognised as a leader in innovative service provision. The Library is currently going through the next phase of transformation with new leadership, an expanding service profile and a new building at the heart of the campus (due 2019) all ensuring the Library remains core to learning and research at UTS.

As the Director of User Experience and Planning, (DUEP), you will be responsible for ensuring that the Library is equipped to deliver a superior user experience by ensuring Library spaces are maintained and developed in concert with the direction and ambitions of the University.

A truly diverse role,you will also provide leadership in the business functions of the Library with a focus on driving the Library's business excellence, budget management, human resource development, organisational planning, communications and program management functions.

With a strong focus on user experience the Library aspires to provide environments that promote learning and success whilst promoting engagement with services and collections in all parts of the UTS experience.

You will have a strong commitment to user experience, client focus as well as an innate understanding of the skills required of UTS Library staff to meet the challenges of the future.

Day to day you will have responsibility for:

  • Informal Learning Spaces - ensuring Library spaces are developed and maintained in alignment with the University aspirations.
  • Developing Business Plans, Program Plans, Strategy and Policy.
  • Marketing/Communications/Programs, including the planning, coordination and implementation of the Library's communication and promotional activities and responsibility for the budgeting and financial activities associated with these activities.
  • Human Resource Management - Identifying and promoting development opportunities suited to staff skills, interests and ambitions.
  • Undertaking workforce planning processes including succession planning and talent development.
  • Leadership of Library Quality and Administrative Operations.
  • Governance and Decision-Making.


About you

With demonstrated leadership at a senior level within the tertiary education sector or related environment you will have an understanding of informal learning spaces and their impact within an educational or related setting. You will see yourself as the type of individual who can work effectively as a member of a senior executive team with the political nous to navigate a varied stakeholder landscape. In an ideal world you will have a background in the higher education sector though you may even come from the arts/cultural sector.

What is crucial is that you are the type of person who will be at ease synthesizing a step change amongst a diverse workforce with the ability to understand individual development needs and delivering a range of programs to raise skill level.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: An attractive and competitive salary package will be negotiated with the appointee. (SSG2)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 5 years.
