At UNSW Arts & Social Sciences we explore big ideas, create new knowledge, and tackle critical social issues. The School of the Arts and Media (SAM), in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, teaches undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programs in Creative Writing, English, Film, Media, Music, and Theatre & Performance Studies. In the recent ERA process the School received exceptional results across its full range of activity. SAM’s academic staff, all with international profiles, are leaders in their fields and the School is top-ranked nationally not only in the Performing Arts, Literary Studies and Creative Writing, but also Film, Television and Digital Media.
The School of the Arts and Media is currently seeking a new Head of School. The Head of School plays a key role in facilitating delivery of the UNSW 2025 Strategy’s strategic priorities of academic excellence, social engagement and global impact. Marked by deep intellectual leadership, the successful candidate should bring academic credibility in an appropriate discipline, combined with breadth of academic vision, strategic thinking, and demonstrable experience leading and inspiring teams in an innovative, research-intensive environment. They will be able to develop partnerships both within and external to the School, along with driving diversity and inclusion within the School.
