About the business and the role

Health Consumers NSW is a non-government organisation whose aim is to increase effective consumer engagement in decision making across the health system in NSW.

We are looking for a highly motivated, creative person to join our small and dynamic team. You will be responsible for helping us develop and expand our training and educational programs to health consumers and health service staff in NSW.

You will have had experience in designing and delivering training, and will ideally have experience as a staff member or consumer representative within NSW Health.

Occasional work on weekends and after hours will be required. The position will involve some travel around NSW and interstate.

This position is for an initial 24 months contract. Ongoing employment and salary increases will be awarded based achieving mutually agreed KPIs.

The position will be located at the HCNSW office, 280 Pitt Street, Sydney.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Technical Abilities:

  • High level administration, organisational, negotiation and planning skills
  • High level interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in program development and delivery.
  • Capacity to develop web based training activities
  • Advanced  computer skills such as WORD, POWERPOINT, EXCEL
  • Well developed problem solving skills.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Designing and delivering education and training programs.
  • Conceptualise and develop programs in response to needs expressed by health consumers and health service organisations.
  • Manage the following aspects of training delivery: planning, implementation, analysis, evaluation and reporting.
  • Develop education and training resources
  • Respond to the needs of health consumers engaged in government and non-government health services including NGO’s.
  • Support relationships with stakeholders across the health service and NGO’s.
  • Assist with the coordination of effective marketing and communication strategies for programs.
  • Identify barriers to effective program implementation and assist with strategies to overcome these barriers.
  • Perform other duties reasonably required as directed to support the primary objectives of the position.
  • Ability to write clear and concisely for different audiences
  • At all times promote positive, professional relationships with internal & external stakeholders.

Teamwork & Communication:

  • Keep the Executive Director informed of progress with programs and other relevant information.
  • Develop effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in staff meetings and report back relevant information to the team.
  • Provide reports to the Board and Executive Director as required.

Documentation & Administration:

  • Collect, collate, analyse and report relevant data.
  • Provide timely, accurate and meaningful reports as necessary to fulfil funding / program / organisational requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Adhere to the Work, Health and Safety requirement and polices of HCNSW

Travel

  • be prepared to travel to regional areas of NSW as a part of the role, when required.
  • Access to a private vehicle is essential and car allowance will be paid to remunerate travel costs

Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in education, training and/or health related field including social science, allied health, behavioural science, health promotion or nursing.
  • Minimum three years experience working in a health service organisation (as health worker or consumer representative).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health consumer issues as they relate to the NSW health system and health related non-government organisations (NGO's).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the benefits of health services partnering with health consumers.
  • High level experience in the design and delivery of education and training programs.
  • Current valid driver's license and private transport (car allowance will be paid for travel)
  • Preparedness to undertake regional training where required.
  • Advanced  computer skills such as WORD, POWERPOINT, EXCEL

Desirable

  • Demonstrated ability to support and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders across the health services and NGO's.
  • Capacity to assist with the coordination of effective marketing and communication strategies for programs.
  • Capacity to identify barriers to effective program implementation and assist with strategies to overcome these barriers.
