The speech language teacher aide is required to solely manage the daily programming support for identified speech language students in the school setting. This includes organising the student speech language support timetable by liaising with teachers, SLP and HOD Learning Support. Other duties include writing and delivery of speech programs based on identified goals set by Speech Language Pathologist or HOD Learning Support. Administering diagnostic tests to identify student’s speech and language strengths and weaknesses and reporting back to SLP and HOD Learning Support.As a part of this TAOO4 role, Proserpine State School has a commitment to the community to provide a playgroup in school hours.

Teacher Aide core responsibilities may include:

  • Organise, plan and deliver daily/weekly programs/activities for individual students who have been identified with:
    • Speech/language needs for all year levels
    • Targeted language support needs for years Prep to 6
    • Provide literacy support to identified students in before school classes
  • Liaising with Speech Language Pathologist, HOSES, HOD Learning Support to discuss student's progress on identified goals and adjust programming as necessary.
  • Provide support to other staff members and other schools in speech language teaching and organisation
  • Plan, organise and facilitate the weekly school playgroup including organisation of activities for indoor and outdoor play, parent interaction and support and links with outside agencies to support parents.
  • Plan, organise facilitate and liaise with the community to organise the annual Under 8s community event. The TAOO4 will be the co-ordinator of this event including liaising with staff, community organisations to deliver a morning of activities for the 0-8's age group in our local community. This would include coordinates promotion of event in community, in-school as well as outside of school organisation and setup of at least 30 activities, liaising with media, and organising morning tea facilities. 
  • Plan, co-ordinate and facilitate the annual mother's day and father's day stall including ordering of gifts, parent help including timetable for day, float, raffle etc.
  • Plan, organise, co-ordinate and facilitate the ordering, completion of Picture plates for Prep and Year 6 students annually.
  • Be able to transition seamlessly from one education setting to another.  That is work across Special Education, Prep, and Office if the need arises. Be able to work across all educational settings in our school environment. 
  • Provide a safe friendly, positive, encouraging and engaging learning environment to support all students to reach their individual goals.
  • Creating, making and collecting of appropriate resource to assist in supporting identified student needs.
  • Manage the coordination of events and liaise with admin, Early Year's staff and parents to ensure the successful outcome for all events.
  • Playground/ Bus Duty
  • Supervise students in a safe and controlled area at playtime and when they are exiting the school to catch their buses.
