Research & Policy Support Officer - Clerk Grade 5/6 - 201853 Full time ongoing appointment Location: Phillip Street, Parramatta About the Department of Education The NSW Department of Education serves the community by leading the provision of world-class education. The department protects young children by regulating preschool and long day care providers. Once children move into school, we provide them with a world-class primary and secondary education. We also work to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people. About the Directorate The National Initiatives and Performance Directorate develops cross-divisional policy proposals and strategic projects and pursues opportunities to leverage national education policy reform. We provide expert analysis and advice on emerging national policy areas and developments that are of strategic significance to education in NSW. We are also responsible for managing national performance and accountability processes to ensure milestones are met and to secure the best possible national policy and resourcing outcomes for NSW. About the role You will be part of a small, friendly team that provides strategic advice on national education policy and reporting issues, and develops policy proposals and projects in areas of strategic significance. For example, we were closely involved in the development of the 2015 National STEM School Education Strategy (available at www.educationcouncil.edu.au). We are also responsible for the Education for a Changing World project which is examining the strategic implications that advances in technology, including Artificial Intelligence, will have for education (education.nsw.gov.au/education-for-a-changing-world). In the role you will be: Researching and analysing policy and data Participating in project work Coordinating input across the Department to national reporting activities Gaining experience working in strategic policy Preparing advice, reports and correspondence Working collaboratively within the Department, across government and with stakeholders This opportunity offers interesting and challenging work across a range of projects of varying size and complexity, excellent working conditions and exposure to public policy development. About you You will be a logical thinker with excellent research and analysis skills which will enable you to verify information and identify issues and implications. While you may not have a background in education, you will be willing to learn and keen to develop your public policy skills. You will be highly motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills and be adept in changing priorities with the needs of the Directorate. Your experience in working collaboratively and building excellent relationships will be an asset to our team.
