The Faculty of Engineering is seeking to appoint outstanding emerging and established academics to provide critical capability to our already strong program of work in materials engineering. The application of functional materials is rapidly expanding to meet critical challenges at the energy-food-water nexus and to add greater value to traditional structural materials. We are seeking academics interested in creating and/or translating these materials in a vibrant interdisciplinary environment. Monash has a uniquely strong capability in materials because of the co-location of cutting edge synthesis/characterization platforms, the Australian National Laboratory dedicated to materials development (CSIRO,) and the Australian Synchrotron. The following areas represent, but should not be viewed as limiting, our areas of interest:
- functional food
- 2D materials
- electronic materials including photovoltaics and low-power wearable systems
- ceramics
- polymers
- energy storage
- membranes
- artificial tissue
- biomaterials
- chemically dynamic processing
- machine learning for materials design and development
All appointments will be made to the most relevant department and where appropriate, candidates will be jointly appointed to multiple departments.
