Donvale Early Learning Centre is a long day care centre catering for up to 103 children from 6 weeks of age.  We are seeking an experienced cook.  Shifts are typically between 8am - 3pm, Monday to Friday (no weekends). 

Summary of the Role

Our ideal centre cook must have an understanding of the nutritional needs for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old, and be aware of food intolerances and allergies. They should be capable to develop menu plans, and have a passion for cooking delicious and healthy meals.  Other necessary skills involve being able to order groceries according to the menu, ensuring the kitchen is stocked and well maintained while working within budgets. 

Candidate must

• Have experience cooking for large groups in institutions such as childcare centres, hospitals or age care homes
• Understand the nutritional needs for children aged 0-5 years
• Be able to prepare varied and nutritional meals within budget, whilst catering for special dietary and cultural needs
• Have strong understanding of food safety & hygiene, allergies, and intolerances
• Be able to communicate effectively with both staff and parents when required
• Hold a Food Supervisor and Food Safety and Food Handling Certificate  (Qualifications/training in menu planning and nutrition are desirable, but not compulsory)
• Have a current Victorian Working with Children Check.
• Have current and accredited qualifications in First Aid and Anaphylaxis
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory bodies, including local council & state government, and legislative requirements
• Have Australian working rights
