The Research & Innovation Portfolio oversees research and research training across the University through the development and implementation of RMIT University’s strategic research priorities and managing research systems and reporting requirements. The Portfolio supports the research activity of staff and student researchers with professional development, collaboration and funding opportunities, ethics and responsible conduct compliance, contract development, intellectual property, project completions and profiling.

The Role and Your Responsibilities

The Intellectual Property (IP) and Commercialisation Manager works with the IP and Commercialisation Team to implement the University’s goals, including the intellectual property plan and operational frameworks, achieving objectives and deliverables in line with the broader University strategy.

You will be responsible for assisting to improve RMIT’s impact through protecting and commercialising intellectual property and research outcomes. This includes identifying research to be patented, licensed and providing expert advice on all IP and commercialisation matters to RMIT researchers. You will build internal and external networks to identify opportunities for commercialisation, market research and license negotiation.

Skills & Experience Required

The successful candidate will have a relevant degree and/or experience with commercialisation in a University or large organisation and professional skills in building internal and external networks in relation to commercialisation of intellectual property.

With demonstrated success in strategic project management including planning, resource allocation, communication, implementation, negotiation, evaluation and reporting; you will also have experience in negotiating commercial and legal arrangements for commercialisation.

You must have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, and efficiently manage multiple requests for information and assistance and to work under pressure of various deadlines.

Registration as a patent and trade mark attorney or a law degree would be highly regarded.
