Blackett Public School, with an enrolment of 230 students, including 30% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 30% of students from a non-English speaking background, mainly Pacific Islander students, is situated in Western Sydney. The school has a support unit with four classes catering for students with a range of intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities.
Aboriginal Education is a priority in all aspects of the curriculum. Equity funding facilitates innovative initiatives and Early Action for Success (EAfS) pedagogy drives best practice interventions in literacy and numeracy, for students, Kindergarten to Year 6. Positive Behaviour for Learning initiatives underpin school wide expectations and student welfare policies. A school-wide approach is create an environment that fosters success, supports the development of safe, respectful and responsible learners.
Parent and community partnerships are highly valued and are considered an integral part of our school’s success. The school works closely with external agencies.
In addition to the general selection criteria:
· Approval to teach infants and/or primary
· Demonstrated ability to implement and lead Literacy and Numeracy pedagogy 3-6
· Proven capacity to monitor and implement strategies to support all aspects of Student Wellbeing in the context of a low socio-economic status community
· High order interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication with all members of the school community and the leadership team
· Demonstrated capacity to implement and lead 21st Century learning technologies across all KLA’s
· Understanding of a school community with a high percentage of Aboriginal and Pasifika students and the accompanying cultural sensitivities associated with the students
General Selection Criteria
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
