Position Information

Merewether Heights Public School promotes high expectations in all areas of educational achievement. It is a nurturing and inclusive environment with a current enrolment of 346 students, including 4 students identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 27 students with a language background other than English. Students are challenged to reach their full potential in a safe and supportive environment that values differentiated learning experiences. The team of staff is dedicated, enthusiastic and collaborative in planning programs to improve student outcomes. Students are provided with a wide range of opportunities in the creative and performing arts and representative sport across a wide range of disciplines. The school enjoys a strong partnership with its community and values parental involvement and expertise. The strategic directions for 2018-2020 are focused on maximising student outcomes, differentiated learning and community engagement.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with a proven capacity to balance exemplary classroom teaching practices with the complex responsibilities of being an approachable school leader.

Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and build the capacity of a team of staff to implement innovative pedagogy, informed by evidence and data, to maximise student learning and engagement and improve educational outcomes for all students.

Outstanding collaborative skills and ability to initiate, build and strengthen relationships and partnerships with students, staff and the broader community.

General Selection Criteria

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
