What do we do?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) was established to provide a coordinated and integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the South East Qld Region. The IUIH is a lead agency working in partnership with key stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the Council of Australian Governments ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives.

This role: As a casual early childhood worker, you will be responsible for providing child care to children under school age, while parents/guardians are onsite and engaged in programs with IUIH or member services. The casual early childhood worker will be responsible for maintaining sign in sheets for children therefore you will need to ensure parents/guardians have signed children in and out correctly and maintain notes as required.

The position will be responsible for:

  • Provision of short term child care (up to 3 hours) to children whilst parents/guardians are engaged in an activity at the clinic
  • Supervising the children, ensuring the environment is safe and fun
  • Engaging in activities with a positive approach
  • Providing care for children in a nurturing manner
  • Informing families about how their child interacted during the care period
  • Contributing to planning activities to be undertaken during child care sessions
  • Safe practice of food handling and hygiene as required
  • Engagement with clinic staff
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Experience in caring for children – this may include informal parenting/carer experience and/or formal childcare including previous crèche experience
  • Willingness to undertake training
  • National Police Clearance
  • Current Blue Card or willingness to apply
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current C Class Driver’s Licence (QLD) is desirable
  • Ability to travel across South East Queensland as required
