The Role
The Head will provide a vision and implement policies that will foster excellence in research, teaching and engagement in the School of Political Science and International Studies. The Head will provide academic leadership in core areas such as: improving research quality and impact; increasing external funding through grant success and philanthropy; enhancing the postgraduate research culture and experience; strengthening relationships with relevant community stakeholders, professions and institutions; and developing the undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching programs in line with the innovations and expectations outlined in UQ’s Student Strategy.
The Head will work in partnership with the Executive Dean, Humanities and Social Sciences, within a devolved University structure that nevertheless fosters a ‘One UQ’ culture. The Head will be a team player, building a cohesive and engaged School, while also acting in the best interests of the Faculty and University.
The Person
The successful appointee will have demonstrated excellent leadership and management skills that will enable the School to further develop and realise a vision that builds upon an excellent teaching and research culture. The person is expected to have and to maintain an international reputation for excellence in research, and have demonstrated excellence and commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision.
