The School of Physics operates within the Faculty of Science, UNSW and is one of the leading Physics departments in Australia. We have a strong teaching and research culture and our staff are conducting cutting edge research in astrophysics, condensed matter physics, theoretical physics, acoustics and biophysics. The Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology is headquartered at UNSW. Being the lead institution, it funds and administers the other 7 national nodes – University of Melbourne, Australian National University (ANU), University of Queensland, Griffith University, RMIT, and University of Technology Sydney. In addition, the Centre has over 25 formal international partners and administers substantive contracts with the US Army Research Office, the Semiconductor Research Corporation, Australia-India Strategic funds, and New South Wales State Government funds

 

About the role

  • $102K - $115K plus 9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term until April 2019
  • Full-time 35 hours per week

The Finance Manager will oversee the financial management of the administrating node of the office of CQC2T (UNSW). The position will manage and maintain all financial processes at UNSW and administer the correct implementation of the Centre’s budgetary plans. This includes monitoring of the income and expenditure, forecasts and timely financial reporting and advice to the Director, Chief Operations Officer, UNSW, the Australian Research Council and the Centre Advisory Committee.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will:

  • A degree with substantial extension of the theories and principles or postgraduate qualifications with experience in financial management and budgeting
  • Demonstrated capability in financial reporting and the provision of financial advice
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and manage financial compliance against policy and procedures
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate effectively to people of varying backgrounds and levels of seniority from student to Director
  • Possess leadership qualities, drive, enthusiasm, problem solving skills and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability in establishing work priorities, particularly managing complex tasks within critical deadlines
  • Exceptional technical skills in financial and administration systems and reporting, specifically a high level NSS System knowledge
  • Advanced computer skills in general, and in particular, using Excel software including the design and auditing of advanced spreadsheet applications
  • Demonstrated skills to analyse, develop and implement improved systems and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high-quality client service
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
