Sydney Catholic Schools is committed to providing quality education for students newly arrived to Australia, particularly those students from a refugee background. We are looking to reinforce our existing team of committed TESOL qualified teachers, with some new members who share their passion to improve the social and educational outcomes for these students.
The Catholic Intensive English Centres provide a safe and inclusive environment where high quality intensive English language instruction is provided for students newly arrived to Australia including those from refugee backgrounds. The Intensive English curriculum is taught through key subject learning areas to develop students’ English skills to a level that will allow them to continue their general education and English language learning in their secondary school. In addition to EAL support, the program provides settlement and wellbeing support.
CRITERIA:
Applicants must have:
- Demonstrated commitment to the Mission of Catholic Education
- Relevant qualifications (TESOL) to teach English as an additional language
- English as an additional language teaching experience
- Proven ability to respond to and cater for the learning needs of newly arrived students of English as an Additional Language (EAL) in particular, students from a refugee background
- Understanding of the educational implications for schools meeting the needs of students from low socio-economic status communities
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of students from
- a language background other than English
- a refugee background
- Capacity to integrate technology in effective classroom practice.
