General Practice Training Queensland (GPTQ) is dedicated to the provision of excellence in General Practice training.

GPTQ is seeking a full time experienced Research Officer working 36.25 hours per week (fixed term to July 2019) from our Springwood office.

The Research Officer will support the implementation of two education research grants (ERG). The two ERGs cover two different areas with a focus on qualitative data collection and analysis. One grant is exploring the barriers and enablers to recruitment of medical educators. The second is exploring GP Registrar-initiated oversight support and advice (help seeking by registrars from their GP supervisor(s) to manage patients) in general practice training.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • To implement the relevant ERGs within GPTQ including but not limited to recruitment of participants, coordination of team members, conduct of focus groups and interviews, collation and analysis of findings and dissemination of findings.
  • Provide assistance to the GPTQ staff, Medical Educators and Academic Advisors in the development and implementation of the ERGs.
  • Liaise with relevant University departments of General Practice and Academic Advisors relevant to the research activities.  
  • Liaise with other research staff within the RACGP and AGPT network.
  • Action other tasks as directed.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • postgraduate qualifications, or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or extensive experience and management of research, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Understanding of statistics and principles and practice of thematic analysis, including familiarity with statistical software and qualitative analysis software;
  • High level written and verbal communication skills and high quality interpersonal relationship skills;
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of Microsoft Office Professional software applications;
  • Demonstrated ability with literature/ Database searching and use of relevant programs such as Endnote or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively both independently with a minimum of supervision and as a member of a team, including delegation and support of other staff to ensure successful outcomes;
  • Experience in the preparation of research ethics proposals, reports and publications;
  • Knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research principles.

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • An established network within the research community;
  • Experience in social science research including ethnographic and/or other observational research;
  • Understanding of the current context of General Practice training from undergraduate through to continuing education.
