With a growing team across the Program, we have career opportunities within our Human Factors team within the Future Submarine CSI Program. This is an amazing career opportunity to join a team at its infancy.
 
We are keen to hear from candidates with differing levels of experience with relevant experience gained in human science, preferably cognitive psychology. Although defence experience would be beneficial – it is not essential. Supported by the Human Factors Lead, this position is responsible for supporting the Human Factors Engineering scope elements for the Future Submarine Combat System and you will be an important contributor to the success of this specialist team that has a wide impact within the Program.

You will join a diverse and passionate team that is committed to supporting each other and the broader Program team to meet the deliverables of this ground-breaking Program. You will have exceptional communication abilities and enjoy being hands-on. Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline are highly desirable.

Developing our staff is important to us and we have a number of training programs that include the Submarine Domain, Systems Engineering and specialist packages that have been implemented and have received great feedback from the existing team.

Some of the activities this role will undertake are:
  • Provide human factors engineering consultation, as required, to support Human Factors activities and reviews.
  • Conduct human factors reviews on combat system design specifications.
  • Develop and maintain human factors design requirements.
  • Design and conduct an operator task analysis. Broadly communicate findings to system engineers to ensure that Operator role requirements are understood and considered throughout the design phase of the program.
  • Design and conduct lab based usability testing; employing both quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques in the evaluation of operator workflows, GUI and hardware designs.
  • Provide human factors guidance and support for the physical design, layout, and evaluation of the control room Operator consoles.
  • Design and conduct anthropometric studies on the proposed combat system design.
  • Interpret, tailor, and apply human factors standards and guidelines, such as MIL-STD-1472.
  • Establish and foster a strong working relationship with the customer and partners; ensure customer needs have been translated and communicated. 

You will have skills and experience in:
  • Experience working within human factors
  • Awareness of current and emerging best practices in human factors engineering.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • A tertiary degree in a related human factors field such as cognitive psychology would be also highly desirable
