The Biomedical Imaging Facility (BMIF) is a multi-user facility within the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC) in the Division of Research at UNSW, Sydney. The facility is a platform for researchers to gain access to a comprehensive suite of advanced light and optical instrumentation and associated expertise. The facility supports and collaborates with a variety of research groups in the Faculties of Science, Medicine and Engineering at UNSW, as well as groups at other universities and research institutes in Australia and overseas. A new strategic unit, the Ramaciotti Systems Microscopy Unit, is currently being established in association with BMIF for the automation of multiplexed labelling of cells and tissue combined with bioimage informatics, statistical big data analysis and machine learning. A key element is to establish unsupervised data acquisition via robots and feedback microscopy to generate large and unbiased data sets for fundamental and applied research that feed into a pipeline of analysis.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of the Biomedical Imaging Facility, you will support and collaborate on research projects in the Ramaciotti Systems Microscopy Unit and develop data acquisition protocols (e.g. optimization of robotics and fluid handling robotics into state-of-the-art microscopes), and image analysis tools for large data sets.

The Successful Candidate

You are a PhD qualified scientist with extensive experience in advanced fluorescence microscopy, liquid-handling automation, and bespoke image analysis of confocal, live cell and single molecule data.
