Location Profile


Warringa Park School, a large multicultural specialist school setting is located in Hoppers Crossing. The school is situated in a growth corridor and has experienced a significant increase in enrolments over the past four years. Enrolments are drawn from the City of Wyndham and enrolment numbers have grown substantially over the past four years.  The school has 144.5 equivalent full-time staff: 4 principal class, 67.93 teachers, 72.57 education support staff and currently has an enrolment of 520 students.

The school caters for students aged between 5 and 18 years who have a diagnosed mild to profound intellectual disability. The school has been organised around the three stages of learning - early, middle and later years and spread across three campuses. A cohort of years 8, 9 and 10 students are attending the Bethany Road campus on the grounds of The Grange P-12 College in Hoppers Crossing. The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is offered to later years students at the Bethany Road campus. An alternative later year’s program is offered at the Cayley’s Road rural campus, which is situated amongst market gardens at Werribee South. The main campus in Warringa Crescent, caters for all students from Foundation through to Year 7 and some Year 8, 9 and 10 students, who have undertaken their learning activities in the purpose built Later Years Learning Centre. Each additional campus has been set up and developed over the past four years.

Selection Criteria


SC1      Capacity to undertake routine support tasks across a range of functions in one or more work areas within a school environment.

SC2      Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support and/or attendant care to students where necessary.

SC3      Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software or technical equipment as relevant to the position.

SC4      Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support, students and parents.

Role


Undertakes routine tasks that are usually carried out under close supervision and direction.  Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established and direction is readily available.

Work has little scope for deviation. Problems can usually be solved by reference to well documented procedures and instructions and clearly established practices.  Deviation from established procedures will require reference to others for guidance and direction.  Assistance is readily available when problems arise.  An experienced employee at range 1 will exercise limited judgement within clearly defined guidelines and well established practices that relate specifically to the tasks performed.

Does not carry responsibility for the work of others.  More experienced employees will provide basic guidance and advice to others relating to tasks within the work area.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.  Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
 

Responsibilities


To work under the routine direction of the classroom teacher.Provide support for the students in all school programs.Produce basic curriculum support resources and assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas.Assist in therapy activities and life skills with students.Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of programs and of student’s level of participation and achievement.Assist in the preparation of equipment and purchasing of materials and supplies as required.Participate in Parent/teacher interviews as required.

Assist with toileting, showering and changing of students as a priority.Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.Observe students and bring any concerns to the attention of teachers if necessary.To treat the students in a positive and respectful way.

To develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers.
To participate in an appraisal/annual review process.
To actively develop and maintain effective relationships with parents and staff.
To follow Occupational Health and Safety guidelines. e.g. correct cross infection prevention.
To maintain confidentiality.
To carry out other duties as assigned by the principal or classroom teacher.
To participate in team meetings and staff meetings.
