Australian College of Applied Business (ACAB) is one of the progressive Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) based in Canberra, ACT. The college is currently offering certificate to diploma level courses in business to domestic students and corporate clients, with a plan to extend the scope of registration in the near future. The college is awaiting registration as a provider of educational services to overseas students (CRICOS) and looking to expand its team to support the new operations.

We are seeking expressions of interest from suitable individuals who have proven experience in student support and administration to join our RTO administrative team. The Student Support Officer is the first point of contact for college’s student for support related needs. Working under the direction of Student Administration Manager, this position provides a range of student service duties that involve communicating to students about all aspects of college student support services, implementation of the relevant support policies and procedures, arranging external referrals for a range of support needs, and attending to student enquiries.

To be successful in this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
 

  • A Diploma level or a higher qualification in business administration, management or related domains/fields;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a student support, service, or administration role in an education or training environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in providing student support services, advice, assistance to students and taking a pro-active approach in identifying and resolving support issues;
  • Ability to liaise with and maintain effective collaborative relationship with other student administrative and learning support personnel within the college;
  • Excellent knowledge of the relevant Standards for RTOs 2015, and The National Code 2018, in particular compliance requirements related to student support;
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues facing the students (in particular international students) and ability to network with external student support agencies;
  • Well-developed computing skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, databases, email and the Internet;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills providing an ability to build relationships and liaising with a broad range of staff and students across all areas of the college;
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a team and work independently, at times without supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in problem solving with excellent attention to detail;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to accurately record minutes of meetings, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students;
  • Demonstrated consistency, accuracy and accountability in undertaking tasks, and maintaining records
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver quality customer service;
