The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment is one of the leading faculties of its kind in Australia. We have achieved outstanding results in the Australian Research Council ERA research excellence ratings, being the only university to achieve the highest possible rating of '5' in Civil Engineering across all three ERA assessments (2010, 2012 and 2015), and one of only two to achieve a 5 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering across all three ERA assessments, and a 5 in Resources Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy. Our position as one of the most highly ranked engineering faculties in Australia is recognised through our associate membership of the Group of Eight.

About the Role

The Associate Professor provides leadership and academic excellence in the field of Construction Management with an excellent track record of ERA research outputs. They have an excellent research and teaching portfolio of national standing in one of the School thematic areas of: Infrastructure Project Delivery and Construction Business (including Construction Governance, Procurement and Project Systems; Innovative Construction Materials and Manufacturing Systems,) or Building Resilience (including Disaster Resilience, Recovery and Sustainable Development; Built Environments for Better Health and Aged Care). Their teaching and research outputs including externally funded projects, impact and engagement are aligned with the School’s objective of Planning, Designing and Constructing Resilient Communities. The Associate Professor will also undertake research, teaching, unit coordination, academic administration and HDR student supervision in collaboration with colleagues. This work will be under the direction of the Head of School and in collaboration with the Discipline Leader of Construction Management.

This position combines teaching, research and service to support the delivery of NeW Futures through:

  • A cohesive focus on Planning, Designing and Constructing Resilient Communities practice that extends regionally,nationally and internationally through disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching and research;
  • Industry and community
  • Ensuring that Construction Management students have enhanced employment opportunities in a tightening job market, with capabilities aligned to industry needs and
  • Contributing to the School and Faculty strategic plans.

This position provides expertise and leadership in the discipline of Construction Management with alignment across the broad themes of Infrastructure and Project Delivery and Construction Business or Building Resilience. The successful applicant will therefore join the team at an exciting and dynamic time of change in aligning with the broader theme of Planning, Designing and Constructing Resilient Communities, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals whilst taking this into the future through our graduates and research.

About You

You will have outstanding research leadership and demonstrated sustained research achievements nationally and be recognized as an expert nationally with progress towards recognition internationally in their discipline. You will have delivered high-quality teaching in various formats including online delivery and support. You will provide leadership in research-led teaching initiatives, benchmarking, the incorporation of interdisciplinary and intercultural perspectives to enhance research and learning approaches within the University. You will maintain positive and constructive relationships with students, academic and professional staff, external stakeholders and maintain/expand national and international networks.

The role requires flexibility and responsiveness to change in order to stay abreast of developments in relevant areas of Infrastructure Project Delivery and Construction Business or Building Resilience. You will be expected to demonstrate outstanding scholarly achievements and will be recognized nationally with an emerging international reputation in your discipline. You will deliver outstanding contributions in Learning and Teaching in Student Feedback on teaching, Graduate Overall Satisfaction Index and the Graduate Good Teaching Scale.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  1. A PhD in Construction Management or relevant discipline, combined with demonstrated experience in Construction Management industry or equivalent and membership with a professional body.
  2. Outstanding record of research in the discipline of Construction Management and aligned themes of Infrastructure Project Delivery, Construction Business or Digital Construction. Demonstrated record of attracting external funding and of building research collaborations with multiple stakeholders and colleagues. Generate funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government with evidence of research output as appropriate and ERA eligible outputs.
  3. Demonstrated outstanding ability and experience to develop, co-ordinate and teach professional courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Construction & Project Management. Demonstrated experience in utilizing new media educational technologies and a commitment to pursue the best educational practices, including online and other forms of new media teaching. Evidence of successful high quality teaching is essential.
  4. Demonstrated commitment and experience in teaching a student cohort of diverse cultural and language backgrounds. In addition, demonstrated experience in teaching large interdisciplinary cohorts with an indepth understanding of multidisciplinary synergies.
  5. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to participate in a team environment, engage with industry stakeholders, interdisciplinary collaboration, coaching, mentoring of colleagues and demonstrating initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  6. A track record in research student supervision and completion.
