Heron Island Research Station

Heron Island Research Station (HIRS) is part of the Faculty of Science at The University of Queensland. It is located on a small coral cay 80 km offshore from Gladstone and has been established for over 60 years. It has developed into Australia's largest, best equipped and most productive university-owned marine research station. The station caters to Australian and international researchers and educational groups, offering modern wet and dry laboratories, indoor and outdoor aquaria, a large animal holding tank, separate research and teaching laboratories, seminar facilities, a library, computer room and extensive boating and diving facilities. A team of ten staff members are available to provide scientific services, boating, diving, maintenance and housekeeping support. The Station operates 7 days per week, all year round (excluding shutdown over the Christmas period). 

The role

The successful appointee will maintain operations and leadership continuity in the absence of the Station Manager, with a focus on client services and scientific support. You will act as a contact person for all incoming station clients, with regards to scientific and education operations. You will be responsible for a variety of equipment and compliance matters with regards to operational requirements on the Island.

The person

Applicants should possess a relevant Science Degree with extensive relevant management experience. Experience with working in remote locations and /or in isolated communities is essential. The successful candidate must have the right to work in Australia.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207 - $79,964 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822 - $93,557).
