About the Role

The Associate Lecturer is a Construction Management industry experienced highly motivated person, interested in applying their industry experience and knowledge who is willing to make a difference. In undertaking a career progression at the University of Newcastle, they are expected to deliver teaching and research innovation in the Construction Management discipline and engage with School priorities for impact and engagement with industry, within the broad theme of Planning, Designing and Constructing Resilient Communities. Their experience may align with the two School sub-themes Infrastructure Project Delivery and Construction Business (including Construction Governance, Procurement and Project Systems; Innovative Construction Materials and Manufacturing Systems,) or Building Resilience (including Disaster Resilience, Recovery and Sustainable Development; Built Environments for Better Health and Aged Care). The Associate Lecturer delivers courses focused on problem based learning and on-line learning with an emphasis on real world problems.

The Associate Lecturer will conduct lectures and tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, studio sessions and on-line learning delivery. They will be responsible for maintaining and advancing their professional capabilities relevant to the discipline and course areas taught. The Associate Lecturer also contributes to the delivery of the University’s Strategic Plan.

About You

You will demonstrate initiative and creative approaches to the development and delivery of courses that are aligned to the School theme of Planning Designing and Constructing Resilient Communities and are interdisciplinary, technologically current and industry relevant.

Sound judgement is required in establishing industry and external networks and relationships. You will have the ability to maintain positive and constructive relationships with students, academic and professional staff, external stakeholders and a developing national network. You will provide support and practical expertise in assisting students in understanding the discipline of Construction Management and its changing role in the rapidly changing technological and competitive industry environment. This will require navigating the challenges of applying learning to real world issues in order to create a difference and deliver benefits to the discipline, industry and broader society.

You will have the ability to travel for conferences and research collaboration may be required as well as the ability to work across multiple campuses

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  1. Completion of at least 4 years of an undergraduate qualification in a relevant field and/or relevant experience working in Construction Management. It is desirable that the successful candidate also be currently enrolled in a PhD.
  2. Demonstrated willingness to undertake teaching in a tertiary environment within courses across the Construction Management program, including the flexibility to teach multiple core courses. Willingness to teach large courses of cross disciplinary students, with both distance and on-campus cohorts. Expertise,enthusiasm and high level ability to deliver courses in face-to face and online delivery modes with a focus on continuous improvement methods.
  3. Demonstrated ability to prepare and teach programs at tertiary level, including the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials.
  4. Research or industry experience which can contribute to one of the following sub-themes: Infrastructure Project Delivery or Construction Business or Material Science or Disaster Resilience or Construction Governance.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with students and to promote a student centric learning environment and have a commitment to cultural diversity with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
