The School of Physics operates within the Faculty of Science, UNSW and is one of the leading Physics departments in Australia. We have a strong teaching and research culture and our staff are conducting cutting-edge research in astrophysics, physics, theoretical physics, acoustics, and biophysics. The School also hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology and is a key participant in the ARC Centre for Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies and the ARC Centre for Exciton Science. Currently, the School of Physics has some 30 permanent academic staff, approximately 50 research staff and 15 support staff.

 

About the role

  • $73,597K - $98,127K plus 9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term - 1 year
  • Full-time

The Teaching Fellow participates in teaching activities in the School of Physics, UNSW as well as providing assistance for course assessment, administration and curriculum development. The Teaching Fellow will support the teaching of first-year physics students, ensuring high-quality teaching is maintained in the laboratory sessions and problem-solving workshops. The teaching fellow’s current knowledge of high school students will be utilised to enhance the transition of first-year students to the university setting. The teaching fellow will also assist in the development of resources for high school teachers as part of the graduate certificate in physics for science teachers and professional development offerings from within the school of physics.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Undergraduate degree in Physics or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching physics with relevant involvement in teaching physics in years 11 and 12
  • Ability to use ICT effectively to create and modify online material
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to work collaboratively and foster harmonious workplace relations
  • Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures
