About the opportunity

We are looking for a Strategic Engagement Manager to drive communications within and between core research facilities, the faculties, MDIs and other end-users to achieve proper leverage from the University-wide Core Research Facility (CRF) program in terms of internal and external stakeholder engagement, facility utilisation and promotion, and calculate and facilitate communication of the successes, benefits and costs of the CRF program.

The Strategic Engagement Manager will help ensure the success of this important program. Key relationships and communications are required with the research community, industry, state and federal government, internal and external stakeholders and the public through analysis and communication of the impact and benefits of the CRFs. This will be achieved through analytics, and via digital, online and print media forms as well as through the organisation of promotional and marketing events or relevant sponsorship opportunities. A particular focus will be in fostering engagement leading to partnerships across the areas of research services, research programs and research training.

This role works autonomously and performs independent decision making, in accordance with relevant university policy and guidelines, to ensure the CRF engagement objectives are achieved. Planning and decision making is performed in consultation with the Director. As an experienced professional, the incumbent will provide sound advice and recommendations, exercise good judgement and apply extensive professional know-how to a broad range of matters relating to the Core Facilities Program and major research infrastructure. This role requires initiative and independent decision-making to pro-actively engage with Core Facility Managers and Directors and to manage projects as required.

  • A relevant university degree, postgraduate qualifications and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated capacity to conceptualise and develop strategic communication and engagement activities and partnerships
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the operation of major scientific services and research facilities
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management and partnership development
  • Proven project management skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in scientific and research communications, writing for various target audiences and using a variety of styles and formats
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, writing and editing of brochures, newsletters and other print and digital documents
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing detailed plans and reports for stakeholders
  • Experience in initiating and/or maintaining liaison with government and non-government bodies and stakeholders
