Following the appointment of current Deputy Principal, Ms Deborah Frizza, to a senior role in another school, Mentone Grammar seeks to appoint a Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning (K-12) to commence at the beginning of 2019.

Mentone Grammar is a K – 12, independent, Anglican co-educational grammar school located in the beautiful Bayside suburb of Mentone, approximately 22 kms from Melbourne CBD. Founded in 1923, Mentone Grammar is renowned for its successful learning model of Together-Apart-Together, where girls and boys in the Middle Years (5-9) learn within a coeducational environment in gender specific classes. In Early Learning through to Year 4 and in Years 10-12, students learn in a fully coeducational environment. With world class facilities, designed to inspire curiosity and the imagination, it is not surprising that Mentone Grammar has been announced as a finalist in the 2018 Australian Education Awards as Secondary School of the Year and Best Strategic Plan.

The Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning will have the vision, commitment and ability to lead the Mentone Grammar community through the next exciting phase of the school’s development. With an established progressive educational culture, it will be essential for the successful applicant to have a strong focus on 21st Century learning and an understanding of best practice teaching methodologies. Working directly with the Principal, the Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning will be an influential, energetic, positive and visible leader within the School community, able to inspire and motivate their colleagues and students to be continuous learners.

Position Summary

  • Leadership and development of the philosophy and strategic goals across the curriculum, staff management and professional learning areas of School life.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Provide innovative and positive leadership to support the School's strategic intent to seek and chart improvement across all teaching and learning programs, bringing a global future focus to this position
  • Pro-actively lead, coach and mentor staff in their professional growth and career pathways
  • Oversee staff employment, performance review and professional development programs
  • Ensuring a strong knowledge of contemporary research into Teaching and Learning practice, including assessment and using data to drive improvement
  • Management of contemporary student health and wellbeing concerns, effective communication and liaison with relevant stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a high level of leadership ability to build and sustain relationships with multiple teams and stakeholders
