Traffic Officer (Open Positions = 4)

Permanent Position, Full - Time, 70 hours per fortnight

Salary Range = $68,455.08 - $86,404.36/- per annum (subject to skills and experience)

The Business Unit

The Transport & Civil Infrastructure Business Unit provides a range of maintenance and delivery services relating to road assets, traffic management and street lighting; and infrastructure related to parking system assets. It provides timely and accurate advice, and uses better practice methods and procedures while developing new and innovative solutions to problems in a cost effective and environmentally sustainable manner. The Transport & Civil Infrastructure Business Unit delivers the following services:

  • Asset Management and Planning
  • Engineering Design and Delivery
  • Maintenance & Construction of Civil Infrastructure
  • Parking Operations
  • Traffic and Transport Planning
  • Plant, Fleet and Stores functions across Council

The Role and Responsibilities

The role of the Traffic Officer is to provide support to the Traffic Engineer regarding traffic matters and administrative servicing of the Local Traffic Committee and to operate as a member of a multi-disciplinary design and traffic management team.

  • Investigate and report on traffic matters and make recommendations
  • Monitor and evaluate existing traffic management schemes
  • Attend committees and/or public consultation meetings as required
  • Understand and ensure Council's objectives, plans and strategy on traffic matters are communicated to community, Council employees, and other stakeholders as required

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant experience in the field of Traffic Engineering
  • Proven ability to research and prepare concise, practical and effective recommendations
  • Awareness of Roads Act
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant State Government Legislation, Australian Road Rules and Roads and Maritime Services policies and guidelines with respect to Traffic Engineering
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders
