Mission of the Job

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the software development environment, also high level design, implementation and testing of software for projects as directed by the Project Manager.

Tasks and Responsibilities

•  Process Owner - The software engineer will be responsible for deployment and maintenance of the processes and procedures relating to software development to ensure overall software quality.
• Development Environment - The software engineer will be responsible for deployment and maintenance of the software development environment.  This includes (but not limited to):
  - Software documentation and requirements traceability
  - Software configuration management
  - Libraries and resuable modules
  - Testing and validation
  - Bug tracking
• Development and implementation of control algorithms applicable to industrial electromechanical processes.
  Particularly applicable to Rolling stock
• PLC programming and dynamic software validation.
  Experience in high level PLC programming tools like:
  1.Sequential Function chart
  2.Functional block diagram
  3.Structured Text
  4.Instruction List
  5.Continuous function chart
• Deployment - Working closely with Systems Engineering and Project Management, the software engineer will be responsible for design, implementation, coding and testing of software modules in accordance with the agreed cost and schedule constraints. Work with the project team to identify and mitigate risks.
• Continuous Improvement - The Software engineer will review software development practises and develop improvements to the software development process to improve first-time reliability of software deliverables, reduce development times and ensure test coverage is complete.Participate in broader process improvement, design standardisation and other activities as required from time to time. Initiate and take ownership of improvement activities where deficiencies are noted.
• Customer liaison - The Software engineer is the Sigma technical expert on software matters and as such will need to visit customers from time to time.

Experience Required

• Bachelor or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related area
• 5 years experience developing software applications in accordance with EN50128 and IEE1558.
• Experience in C, C++, IEC61131 languages (e.g. isaGraf)
• Experience in real-time operating system highly desirable.
• Experience in the Rail Industry in general and HVAC in particular highly desirable.
