Swickers Kingaroy Bacon Factory part of the SunPork Group is a large meat processor in Australia (700+ employees) and is currently going through a very exciting period of growth.

In the Operations Manager role, you will work very closely with the Plant Manager and all Department Managers. The chosen applicant will have to have sound knowledge of production within the meat processing industry.  Swickers Kingaroy Bacon Factory aims to reliably and efficiently process pigs and pork products to the highest levels of welfare, quality and customer satisfaction, with a strong focus on Safety, Quality and People.

This is an opportunity to help drive lean manufacturing practices across production. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager will lead the Production team to ensure maximum performance is achieved by meeting all production key performance indicators. You will promote a culture of continuous improvement, including implementing efficiency and cost reduction programs which will maximise production, using a consultative approach to help drive change and ensuring WH&S, Quality and Customer standards are never compromised.

The main duties of this role consist of:

  • Ensuring Production schedule is on track daily;
  • Generation of and interpretation of reports on Production budgets, performance KPI’s and labour costs;
  • Assisting in informing the team of any changes to strategy and direction;
  • Ensuring all food processing is conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements;
  • Manage the introduction of new products, ensuring quality and efficiencies are maintained to the highest possible standard;
  • Reporting any department issues raised by Department Agriculture Water Resources and implement necessary action in accordance with the Plant Manager and Management Team;
  • Monitoring critical KPIs for each department to assist the departments in addressing any variance in conjunction with the Plant Manager and Management Team;
  • Assisting where necessary ensuring correct usage of materials that is linked to product;
  • Ensuring all safety requirements are met in accordance with the HSE Manager;
  • Assisting in planning and presenting continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Assisting where possible and provide support to department managers to meet daily weekly and longer-term production plans;
  • Participating in ATM audits and all other site audits;
  • Contributing to ensuring that all products meet customer specifications whilst also complying with approved arrangements;
  • Assisting Plant Manager in his daily duties as necessary;
  • Assisting in production issues to ensure delivery in full on time to all customers internal and external.

To be successful in this role you will have 

  • Strong communication and influencing skills and willing to lead by example;
  • Understanding and ability to coach and mentor team on Food Safety and HACCP principles and practices;
  • Proactive and hands on Management Style and the ability to coach and mentor team members;
  • Ability to adapt to change and implement new processes in conjunction with Plant Manager and Management team;
  • Management Qualification (ie.Cert IV. Frontline Management)
  • Significant experience and/or qualifications in Lean Manufacturing processes (i.e. Six Sigma or CI)
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills with Microsoft Office
  • Previous Production Management Experience.
