Purpose of this Role
To carry out various plant maintenance activities on mobile and stationary plant equipment in accordance with relevant Sydney Trains, WorkCover, WH&S and Environmental Regulations.  Activities include but are not limited to repairs and maintenance, troubleshooting, routine servicing, calibration of equipment, elementary fitting and machining, arc welding, oxy acetylene welding and cutting in a workshop and field working environment.
 
Key Accountabilities
  1. Diagnose, locate and rectify faults in mobile or stationary plant and equipment.
  2. Strip, inspect, rebuild and/or replace faulty component assemblies and verify correct machine operation through testing.
  3. Carry out manual metal arc and oxy acetylene non-structural welding, cutting and heating tasks associated with plant repair and maintenance, compatible with trade theory training.
  4. Carry out fitting and machining operations associated with plant repairs.
  5. Carry out simple diagnosis and component exchange on electrical systems of less than 30V (DC only) compatible with trade theory training.
  6. Carry out repairs on air brake systems for on-track plant machinery.
  7. Carry out in service operational trials of mobile or stationary plant. Carry out calibration and adjustment of functions for correct machine operation.
  8. Operate any lifting or other equipment for which appropriate training and licences are held, necessary to facilitate repairs to plant.
  9. Carry out machine periodic servicing.
  10. Carry out and document modifications to mobile or stationary plant where deemed necessary.
  11. Complete any necessary records of work performed, machine performance etc
  12. Execute safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities consistent with Sydney Trains safety management system requirements which are defined in SMS document number SMS-02-RG-3058.
 
Selection Criteria
  • Trade or tertiary qualifications in mechanical and or Electrical maintenance
  • Hold current Class 1C drivers licence as a minimum
  • Technical knowledge of heavy and mobile plant and machinery and their associated systems (tampers etc)
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot a range of different hydraulic/electrical systems and their faults
  • Thorough knowledge of safe work practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated medium level computer skills and experience in relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
