  • Spearhead asset strategy life cycle and projects
  • Play a key role in the executive leadership team
  • Career opportunity to influence combined with Newcastle lifestyle

Newcastle is Australia’s third largest port by trade volume and has tremendous capacity for further growth.  The port is managed by Port of Newcastle (PON) under a long-term lease with responsibilities which include asset management and optimisation, trade and port development, cruise shipping and property leasing.  The organisation is focussed on adding value to its stakeholders, and leading port growth and efficiency.

This role presents as an outstanding opportunity reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and as part of the Executive Leadership Team, has responsibility for the delivery of PON projects and the maintenance of port infrastructure.  The Projects and Infrastructure Division is directly responsible for leading project delivery teams and the infrastructure management team to deliver strategic capital and operational maintenance programs. As a key and influential member of the Executive Leadership Team it is expected you will build relationships across Marine Operations, Customer and Strategic Development, Human Resources and Finance and Technology, Stakeholders and Customers, to deliver projects from the concept phase through to operation and completion.

In this role you will have clear accountability for Project Delivery, Asset Lifecycle Management and Leadership of your team and broader Asset Strategy. Specifically you will implement strategic asset management for PON’s 30 year asset maintenance and renewal strategy and undertake capital infrastructure programs and projects within the project management framework. Additionally you will consult with stakeholders and present business cases, budgets and project deliverables across a broad range of capital and maintenance initiatives.

It is essential that you have the ability to communicate and facilitate complex projects with a clear focus on the ability to transition a successful business responding to operational and maintenance challenges to a strategic, project and milestone driven organisation. You will typically be engaged in the commercial business case via planning and integration of assets and maintenance.

To succeed in this role you will need to demonstrate a high level of capability and experience in leading capital asset strategy and the successful delivery of large scale infrastructure projects. You will have superior skills in large scale capital project procurement, process and systems development, be a proven leader of your team and a member of a high performing executive group.  You must be commercially focused and a team player with considerable communication, engagement, facilitation and influencing skills across a broad group of stakeholders.

Ideally you will possess tertiary qualifications with exposure to capital asset, infrastructure, project engineering or relevant port and marine environments.  The opportunity for exciting growth, identification and implementation of asset strategy and maintenance programs is unique and an absolute challenge for yourself and your team.  Your reward will be professional and personal growth with the real prospect of securing economic growth and prosperity for both PON and the economic region.
